Whitecaps Start 4th Season In MLS and 40th As A Club

The Whitecaps begin their 4th MLS season in merely a few weeks on March 8th versus the New York Red Bulls at BC Place. The team is looking a little different than last year with the retirement of right back Y.P. Lee, the controversial selling of 2013 lead scorer Camilo Sanvezzo, as well as other players exiting. The Whitecaps have also brought in some new talent from around the league, including Steven Beitashour and Mehdi Ballouchy formerly from San Jose, as well as some exciting new draft picks, such as center back Christian Dean. The changes have not only been in the roster, however, as Carl Robinson replaces Martin Rennie as the new head coach of the team, moving up from his assistant coaching position last year. Players from last year, such as Nigel Reo-Coker and Russell Teibert, are ecstatic that “Robbo” is getting a chance to coach the team this year and have full faith in him. The Whitecaps are sure to start this season off with a bang come the home opener as they are undefeated so far in home opener games.

This season also marks the 40th year of the Vancouver Whitecaps since the club started in 1974. In honour of this, the Whitecaps are releasing a new “Since 1974” away jersey. It is going to be release on Wednesday, February 19th, and will be arriving here at First Touch Soccer with the rest of the 2014 apparel in the coming weeks. Because of this, we will be putting all older Whitecaps FC jerseys and apparel on sale when the new apparel arrives. If you are planning on going to the opening game, or any games for that matter, make sure to stop by to grab some gear to support the team.

Sebastien Le Toux to Boost Whitecaps’ Scoring

Vancouver Whitecaps FC released a very exciting announcement on January 31st in the signing of midfielder/striker Sebastien Le Toux. The Whitecaps only traded away allocation money to aquire the Frenchman from the Philedelphia Union, where he spent the last two seasons scoring 27 goals in 66 appearances. Le Toux has won the MLS Fair play award for both the 2010 and 2011 seasons, and was on both the MLS All-Star Team and the MLS Best XI for the 2010 season. He also was the USL First Division’s top scorer in 2007 before he and the Seattle Sounders moved to the MLS. Both Whitecaps Fans and Le Toux are looking forward to his return to the Pacific North West and also the potential pairing with fellow countryman Eric Hassli. He should be a great addition to the team and hopefully will bring us closer to MLS glory.

Welcome to Vancouver, Sebastien Le Toux. We’re happy to have you.
