Whitecaps On a Roll!

MLS: Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Orlando SC

Halfway through, Second in the West

Our boys in white have had a great season so far. At the halfway mark the ‘Caps are sitting second in the West with some great stats. The team is tied in first for shutouts and have won as many road games as they did the entire last season. The boys have struggled at home, but are on the road for the next month as BC Place is hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Vancouver are planning to prove themselves on the road this summer and then come home to make BC Place their fortress that it has been for the last few seasons.

Manager Carl Robinson has put together a great team that has proven what they are capable of. Newcomer striker Octavio Riveiro started the season on fire scoring 5 goals in 6 games, and despite a slight mid-season slump, is still playing well and still sits near the top of the scorers race. Keeper David Ousted and a back line featuring the likes of Kendall Waston, Jordan Harvey, Steven Beitashour, and Pa-Modou Kah have battled well to sit in 4th place for goals against so far this season. The midfielders have done very well to help out their team defensively with the likes of Matias Laba, Russell Teibert, and Gershon Koffie, as well as attackingly with Pedro Morales, Mauro Rosales, and Cristian Techera pushing the ball forward. Newcomer striker Octavio Riveiro started the season on fire scoring 5 goals in 6 games, and despite a slight mid-season slump, is still playing well and still sits near the top of the scorers race. But let’s not forget about our strikers like Kekuta Manneh, Darren Mattocks, and Robert Earnshaw who have all helped the team earn points this year.

Let’s hope our boys can put out another great half to finish off the season and give us fans our first home playoff game! We’re right behind you all the way boys.

One Month Until ‘Caps Kick Off 2013 Season

The Vancouver Whitecaps’ 2013 season is only one month away! The first kick-off of the year will take place against Canadian rivals Toronto FC on March 2nd at BC Place. The ‘Caps hope to improve upon last year’s impressive season in which they set a new MLS shutout record at 427 minutes, and became the first  Canadian team in MLS history to make the playoffs. Head coach Martin Rennie has already made big strides in the hopes of bringing the Whitecaps closer to the cup by bringing in some new players from around the league, like former Columbus Crew and Real Salt Lake strikers Tom Heinemann and Paolo Jr. Rennie’s biggest signing this off-season however, is Japanese J-League star Daigo Kobayashi. The dynamic midfielder should bring some more offensive flare to the team and has his former teammate and current Whitecap Jun Marques Davidson excited for the reunion. More big news to start the season is the introduction of new Vancouver Whitecaps FC home jerseys. The club has yet to release pictures of the jersey, but if it’s anything like their current kits, the jersey is sure to look great. This new addition means that the current, inaugural Whitecaps jerseys are out of production, and will soon be unavailable. We do have 2011/12 jerseys, as well as other apparel, still available here at First Touch Soccer, but stock levels are starting to run low.

If you want to pick up your own piece of Vancouver Soccer history, call, email, or stop by. We hope to hear from you soon. Go ‘Caps!!!
